PREVIEW: Cross Country to Begin 2026 Season at Aggie Opener

Cougars open season on Friday with women’s 2k at 6:45 p.m. and men’s 5k at 7:15 p.m.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Houston Cross Country team begins the 2026 season at the Aggie Opener, hosted by Texas A&M on Friday at the Watts Cross Country Course.Â
 The women's 2 mile will start at 6:45 p.m., with the men's 5k following at 7:15 p.m. Live results can be found here.Â

Houston is set to compete against Texas A&M (host), as well as other in-state competitors such as Abilene Christian, Baylor, Houston Christian, Prairie View, Tarleton State, Texas A&M-CC, and Texas Southern.Â
 During the summer, Houston welcomed five freshmen, with three joining the women's squad and two on the men's side. The men's side also added a pair of senior transfers in Jack Boyd and David Soto.Â
Houston welcomes back junior Caden Thurman and sophomore Zac Miller, who both scored for the Cougars at the NCAA South Central Regional. Miller was the top finisher for the Cougars, placing 39th overall.                                                            Â
 For the women, Houston returns a pair of juniors in Addison Hite and Cadence Patterson who closed out the 2025 season strong. Hite ended as the top finisher for the Cougars, placing 35th to close out the cross-country season. Â
