Altic Surges at Bayou City Collegiate Classic to Lead Men’s Golf

Sophomore drains four birdies on way to Final-Round 69 to tie for 11th at 3-under 213
HOUSTON – University of Houston Men's Golf sophomore Jayk Altic drained four birdies on the way to a 69 and surged into a tie for 11th with a score of 3-under 213 following the Final Round of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on Tuesday afternoon.
Starting his day off No. 13 at Westwood Golf Club, Altic endured a bogey at No. 14 but returned to even par with his first birdie of the day on the 155-yard, par-3 17th hole.
Following eight straight pars, the Houston native alternated birdies and pars starting at No. 8 and closed the tournament with his final birdie on the 584-yard, par-5 12th hole to tie for 11th.
It was the second Top-20 finish of his collegiate career and trailed only his third-place showing at the Bayou City Collegiate a year ago.
Opening the tournament with a 67 on Monday morning, senior Sebastian Gamboa joined Altic among the Top-25 leaders, tying for 21st at even-par 216.
Senior Enrique Karg tied for 76th at 233 while sophomore Dominic Green finished 84th at 242.
The Cougars completed their second rounds on Tuesday morning and moved straight into their final rounds after play was suspended due to darkness following a nearly two-and-a-half-hour weather delay on Monday.
This tournament was a recent addition to the Cougars' fall schedule.
Texas' Sterling Hurd and Middle Tennessee's Connor Henry shared medalist honors at 206. Davis Byrd (Rice) finished third at 207 while Rob Politza (Valparaiso), Esteban Gonzalez (UT Rio Grande Valley) and Alex Malanga (Sam Houston) tied for fourth at 208.
Host Rice captured the team championship at 850 to finish two shots ahead of Sam Houston. UT Arlington (854), UT Rio Grande Valley (855) and Abilene Christian (862) completed the Top Five.

Following the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, the Cougars return to action as a team when they compete at the NB3 Matchplay hosted by the Notah Begay III Foundation at Twin Warriors Golf Club in Pueblo, N.M., on Sept. 29-30.
Houston then tees off at the Big 12 Matchplay at Salt Lake Country Club in Salt Lake on Oct. 12-14 before playing in the Abilene Christian Intercollegiate at Halbert National in Granbury, Texas, on Oct. 19-21.
