Senior Grant Doggett with Final-Round 68 to move into tie for second at 6-under 210
GRANBURY, Texas – The University of Houston Men's Golf program lowered its team score for the second straight day and rose into a tie for second following the Final Round of the Abilene Christian Intercollegiate at Halbert National on Wednesday afternoon. After posting scores of 289-285, the Cougars recorded the second-lowest round of the day with a season-low 283 and joined Arizona in a tie for second at 7-under 857. It was the lowest team round and highest team finish under Mike Booker Head Coach Andrew Danna, who is in his first season at Houston.
Senior Grant Doggett fired a 68 in the Final Round to rise into a tie for second with a score of 6-under 210 to lead three Cougars at par or lower during Wednesday's play.
Doggett drained a team-high six birdies on the final day on the 7,485-yard, par-72 course to earn the third Top-Five finish of his career. His finish trailed only his championship run at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on Sept. 28-29, 2025.
Starting off No. 1, Doggett moved into red numbers with a birdie on the par-4 third hole but quickly found himself over par with back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 5-6.
Those would be the only flaws on the Beach City, Texas, native's scorecard for the rest of the round. Doggett returned to even par with a birdie on the par-5 seventh hole and, after alternating birdies and pars at Nos. 13-17, closed his tournament with his final birdie on the 560-yard, par-5 18th hole.
Senior Chi Chun Chen enjoyed the Cougars' second-lowest round of the day with a 2-under 70. The Taiwan native birdied two of his first three holes with a bogey in between to start his round. Following 11 straight pars, Chi Chun Chen added his final birdie at the par-5 15th hole and closed the round with three straight pars to tie for sixth at 2-under 214.
Junior Hsuan-Yi Chen made his lone birdie of the day at No. 4 and finished at even par to tie for 11th at 1-under 215.
Senior Sebastian Gamboa overcame a bogey at No. 2 to sink four straight birdies and tied for 19th at 218 while junior Sacha Ruiz tied for 29th at 223.
#28 Texas A&M won the team title with a three-day score of 840. Michigan (873), Missouri (876) and Tulsa (878) rounded out the Top-Six leaders.
Texas A&M's Aaron Pounds earned medalist honors with a score of 208 to finish ahead of Doggett and Tulsas Minas Manias. Michigan's RJ Arone finished fourth at 212 while Texas A&M's Kris Kuvaas came in fifth at 213.
