Longtime coach accepting position in private business
HOUSTON – Jonathan Dismuke will leave the University of Houston Men's Golf program as director of golf/Mike Booker head coach to accept a position in private business, Vice President for Athletics Eddie Nuñez announced Tuesday evening.A national search for the next head coach will begin immediately.
"We appreciate Jonathan and are grateful for all his hard work with our Men's Golf program. He was an outstanding leader and mentor for our team, and his student-athletes have represented our Athletics Department with class in all ways for nearly two decades. We wish him and his family all the best in their future endeavors and look forward to seeing him on the course soon" Nuñez said.
"I have enjoyed being a coach for 20 years, but I recently was given an opportunity to work in the private sector, which will allow me to spend more time with my wife and our children," Dismuke said. "Houston will always be home to me, and I have immensely enjoyed my 17 years at the University of Houston. I cannot express enough gratitude to my players and the coaches who worked with me as well as Eddie and (Senior Deputy Director of Athletics) David (Williams). I have received so much support through the years from our fans, our boosters and our administration, and I will always be grateful for my time with the Cougars."
Hired on July 16, 2009, Dismuke led the Cougars to three NCAA Championships berths, 12 NCAA Regional team appearances – including each of the last six – and 21 team tournament titles during his career.
The Cougars won the 2013 Conference USA title at Texarkana Country Club and closed their membership in the American Athletic Conference with that league's championship in 2023 with All-American Santiago De La Fuente earning medalist honors at Pelican Club in Belleair, Fla.
Nineteen student-athletes won 29 tournament individual crowns, including three from senior and All-Big 12 Conference performer Hudson Weibel during the 2025-26 season.
Five Cougars (Roman Robledo [2014], James Ross [2014], Blair Hamilton [2015], Michael Perras [2016] and De La Fuente [2024 and 2023] received All-America honors while 23 earned All-Conference recognition during Dismuke's tenure.
The Cougars competed in three straight NCAA Championships from 2014 to 2016 and finished 10th at the 2014 Championships, falling just short of advancing to match play, at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.
Off the course, more than 110 student-athletes were named to Academic All-Conference teams with Blair Hamilton being named the American Athletic Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Kyle Pilgrim (2014-15) and Ross (2013-14) earning American Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards.
