Loras Men’s Volleyball Head Coach rejoins David Rehr’s staff
HOUSTON – Dylan Ross, a former Houston Volleyball volunteer assistant coach, is set to rejoin head coach David Rehr's staff as an assistant coach following six seasons as the head men's volleyball coach at his alma mater Loras College.
Â
The school record holder in kills (767) and coaching victories (111) tutored 26 all-conference selections and eight all-America selections, including the program's first in 2021, and led the Duhawks to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2024 with a school record 25 wins. Ross never had a losing record as head coach with a .776 winning percentage over six seasons at the helm and had the Duhawks ranked in the AVCA Poll top 15 every week since 2021.
Â
Loras squad returned to the NCAA Tournament in 2026 after winning 20 matches for the fourth time in school history and the second time in three years.
Â
"I am thrilled to have Dylan back on staff," Rehr said. "His knowledge of the game, both on the women's side and the men's side will help elevate our game. With him being a head coach on the men's side for six years, the way he views and coaches the offense will bring a fun and powerful type of volleyball to Fertitta Center that Cougar fans will definitely enjoy watching."
Â
Ross wasted little time making an impact as head coach of his alma mater where in his first season he guided the team to a 9-5 record through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, producing the program's first All-Region and All-American honorees.
Â
The following year in 2022, the Duhawks tied the single season wins record with 21 victories, appeared in national polls for the first time, and saw freshman Corey Mayotte earn CCIW Newcomer of the Year.
Â
In 2023, Loras went 18-6 against a demanding schedule that included top-10 opponents, with Mayotte, Patrick Mahoney, and Joe Horn all earning All-America recognition.
Â
The 2024 season marked the program's greatest achievement. Loras went 25-2, reached a program-best No. 4 national ranking, and won its first-ever CCIW Tournament Championship before advancing to the Elite Eight of the national tournament. Ross earned CCIW and Region IV Coach of the Year honors, while Mayotte claimed Region IV Player of the Year and first-team All-American. Horn and Fiorenza also earned All-American recognition.
Â
The 2025 season proved the program's success was no fluke. Loras finished 18-5 and saw Mayotte break the program's all-time kills record. Five Duhawks earned CCIW honors, and the team received the AVCA Team Academic Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.3 or higher.
Â
After graduating in 2018 with a degree in sport management, Ross served as the graduate assistant on Rehr's staff at Arkansas State in the fall and then as a volunteer assistant in Rehr's first season at Houston in 2019.
Â
Ross returned to his alma mater in 2021 to lead the Duhawks men's volleyball program which he helped build from the ground up as a student-athlete. As a player, Ross finished his career as the all-time leader in kills (767) and points (921).
