Men’s Golf Finishes Seventh at Augusta Haskins Award Invitational

Junior Grant Doggett tied for 14th at 9-under 207 to lead Cougars; sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen leads in Final Round with career-low and bogey-free 66
AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of Houston Men's Golf sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen lowered his score for the second straight round on the way to a career-low 66 to surge into a tie for 19th during the Final Round of the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
Chen drained four birdies and added an eagle in a bogey-free round to lead the Cougars over the final 18 holes. Starting off No. 5, the Taiwan native drained birdies at No. 6and No. 9 on his first nine and made an eagle-3 on the 601-yard, par-5 11th hole before closing the tournament with birdies at No. 13 and No. 17.
His total topped his previous lows of 68 during the First Round of the Valspar Collegiate Invitational (March 23, 2026) and the Second Round of the Argent Financial Classic (September 8, 2025).
Junior Grant Doggett overcame a tough to start to post a 72 in the Final Round and tied for 14th at 9-under 207 to lead Houston. Standing 4-over through the first five holes, the Beach City, Texas, native drained four birdies over the final 13 holes to earn his fifth Top-20 finish of the year.
Junior Chi Chun Chen and senior Hudson Weibel were tied for 31st at 212 while senior Bryant Hiskey II was tied for 65th at 221.
#16 North Carolina claimed the team championship with a score of 810 to finish 15 shots ahead of #6 Oklahoma State. #14 Pepperdine (826), #4 LSU (832), #26 Notre Dame (836) and #23 Georgia (836) rounded out the Top Six with #10 Illinois (840), Oregon State (842) and host Augusta (846) completing the Top 10.
North Carolina's Sihan Sandhu defeated Thomas Horne of Georgia Southern on the third hole of a playoff after each tied for first at 15-under 201. Pepperdine's Mahanth Chirravuri and Niall Sheils Donegan of North Carolina tied for third at 202 with Carson Bertagnole (North Carolina) and Grayson Wood (Georgia) tied for fifth at 203.

Following the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational, Houston closes the regular season at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate at Finley Golf Club in Chapel Hill, N.C., on April 11-12.
From there, the Cougars take their first steps in the postseason when they tee off at the Big 12 Championships at Prairie Dunes Golf Club in Hutchinson, Kan., on April 27-29.
From there, Houston looks to compete in NCAA Regional play for the sixth consecutive season. NCAA Regionals play will be held May 18-20 at six sites across the country. Those venues include: University of Georgia Golf Course (Athens, Ga.; hosted by Georgia); Bermuda Run Country Club (Bermuda Run, N.C., hosted by Wake Forest); Traditions Club (Bryan, Texas; hosted by Texas A&M); Ohio State Golf Club (Columbus, Ohio; hosted by Ohio State); Trysting Tree Golf Club (Corvallis, Ore., hosted by Oregon State) and Chin Southern Dunes (Maricopa, Ariz.; hosted by Arizona State).
The Cougars will learn their postseason fate during the NCAA Selection Show at 1 p.m. (CDT), Wednesday, May 6, on Golf Channel.
The Top-Five teams from each NCAA Regional advance to play at the NCAA Championships, set for May 29-June 3 at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
