Track & Field Opens Cameron Burrell Invitational with Two Victories

Cougars win women’s pole vault, men’s discus on Wednesday
HOUSTON – University of Houston Track & Field sophomore Evina Panagiotou and graduate Canaan Wharry earned victories in their respective events on the first day of the Cameron Burrell Invitational at the Carl Lewis International Complex on Wednesday.

Action resumes at 11:30 a.m., Thursday with field events followed by running events at 2 p.m. The senior class will be recognized at 4:45 p.m.

Panagiotou claimed the first victory of the afternoon in the women's pole vault as she cleared 4.21m. Graduate Arianna Peroni took home second place with a personal best mark of 4.11m, moving up to fourth on Houston's all-time performance list. Junior Nicole Prall finished third with a mark of 3.86m.

Wharry won the men's discus on his fifth try with a throw of 55.18m. Sophomore Colton Harrison finished second with a mark of 46.04m while graduate Grant Levesque recorded a personal best of 43.07m.

In men's pole vault, Harrison also finished second after clearing 4.77m. Sophomore Owen Levesque placed third with a mark of 4.47m.

Sophomore Tirea Reed recorded a mark of 48.56m for third place in the women's discus.
