Bryant Hiskey II Holds Lead after First Day at Houston Classic

Senior fires First-Round 64 and holds two-stroke lead entering Tuesday’s Final Round
HUMBLE & MONTGOMERY, Texas – University of Houston senior Bryant Hiskey stood atop the individual leaderboard with a score of 11-under 133 following the first two rounds at the Houston Classic at Golf Club of Houston on Monday.
Hiskey opened the tournament with a career-low 64 in the First Round, thanks to nine birdies and an eagle, and added a 69 in the afternoon session.
After three pars and a bogey a bogey through his first four holes, Hiskey drained four straight birdies on Nos. 2-4 on the 7,422-yard, par-72 course.
He rallied from a double-bogey 5 at the 173-yard, par-3 seventh hole to drain an eagle-3 on the par-5 eighth hole.
Hiskey sank five more birdies on his final nine holes to hold a two-stroke lead over Dallas Baptist's Samuel Jenkins entering Tuesday's Final Round.
The Houston native became the 13th Cougar in program history and the third this season to shoot 64 or lower in a round.

Competing in his first collegiate tournament, freshman Jakub Janda was tied for 41st at 150 while senior Ruben Lindsay was tied for 73rd at 156.
The Cougar trio at the Houston Classic was just one of two Houston Men's Golf groups competing Monday.
Freshman Jayk Altic was tied for 57th with a score of 153 while junior Enrique Karg was tied for 68th at 157. Both were competing at the Bentwater Intercollegiate at Bentwater Yacht & Country Club in Montgomery, Texas.

For Tuesday's Bentwater Intercollegiate Final Round, Karg and Altic will compete in groups with student-athletes from Southern and Texas Southern. Altic begins the First Round at 8 a.m., off No. 16 while Karg follows in the second group off No. 17.

For Tuesday's Houston Classic action, Hiskey, Janda and Lindsay will compete in groups with student-athletes from Arkansas-Monticello, Oklahoma Christian, Missouri-St. Louis and Harding.

UP NEXT
Following the Bentwater Intercollegiate and the Houston Classic, the Cougars will open the spring season as a team when they play host to the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas, on February 16-17.
Houston welcomes HCU, Illinois State, Lamar, Louisiana, New Mexico State, North Texas, Sam Houston, Tarleton State, Troy, UT Rio Grande Valley, Wichita State and Wright State to the tournament.
Houston will take part in another individual tournament in mid-February with the Claud Jacobs Invitational at Victoria Country Club in Victoria, Texas (February 16-17).
From there, the Cougars travel to Mexico to compete as a team at the Cabo Collegiate at Twin Dolphin Club in Cabo San Lucas on March 1-3.
Houston returns home to play host to its own All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas, on March 16-17.
The Cougars will fac e Rice, Abilene Christian, Arkansas, Eastern Michigan, HCU, Lamar, Nebraska, North Texas, Odessa College, Sam Houston, Tarleton State, ULM, UT Arlington, UT Rio Grande Valley and individuals from LSU.
