PREVIEW: Men’s Golf Continues Fall Season at Bayou City Collegiate Classic

Cougars tee off Monday in two-day, 54-hole tournament at Westwood Golf Club
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's Golf program continues its fall schedule when it tees off at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club on Monday morning.The Cougars will play 36 holes starting with an 8:30 a.m., Monday, shotgun start with the Final Round beginning Tuesday morning on the 7,184-yard, par-72 course.
The Cougars will be looking for their second straight team title to open the 2025-26 campaign. In its last action, Houston used a record-setting day to sweep the team and individual championships at season-opening Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La., on Sept. 7-9
The Cougars used a school-record low round of 23-under 265 to finish with a three-day score of 32-under 832 and win by six strokes over South Alabama.
Weibel fired his third straight round in the 60s on the way to a bogey-free 66 and tied with Louisiana's Malan Potgieter at 13-under 275 through 54 holes. On the second hole of the playoff, Weibel holed out an eagle from 123 yards out to capture the first title of his collegiate career.
Weibel was part of a dazzling Final-Round performance by Houston, which saw all five student-athletes in the starting lineup finish under par with three of those shooting 66 or lower.
Chi Chun Chen etched his name in the Houston records book with an 8-under 64 and moved up 33 places in the standings to tie for seventh at 208. He became the 12th Cougar to shoot 64 or lower in a round and the first since Wolfgang Glawe tied the school mark with a 63 in the First Round of the White Sands WVU Invitational on Oct. 25, 2024.

ABOUT the COUGARSUnder the leadership of Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, Houston will be represented by senior Hudson Weibel, junior Chi Chun Chen, junior Grant Doggett, sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen and senior Kevin An. Junior Enrigue Karg, senior Bryant Hiskey and freshman Jayk Altic will compete as individuals.
Following his performance earlier this month, Weibel leads the Cougars with a 67.67 scoring average and all three rounds under par. Chi Chun Chen stands second with a 69.33 average and two rounds under par with Doggett in third among the Cougars with a 70.00 average and two sub-par rounds.
Karg will make his Houston debut at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic after an award-winning career at Utah State. The Guadalajara, Mexico, native transferred to Houston during the summer.
Altic will make his collegiate debut after an award-winning junior career in Houston.
TEAM FIELD
The Cougars will compete in a 14-team field featuring Houston Christian, UIW, Valparaiso, UT Rio Grande Valley, ULM, Louisiana, UT Arlington, Prairie View A&M, Lamar, Texas Southern, Abilene Christian, Utah Valley, host Rice and individuals from LSU.
TEE TIMES
For Monday's action, Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from Rice and Louisiana.
Chi Chun Chen begins the day in the first group off No. 1 at 8:30 a.m., Monday, with Weibel (second group off No. 1), Doggett (No. 2), Hsuan-Yi Chen (No. 3) and An (second group off No. 4) following.
Karg begins his Houston career off No. 17 with Altic (first group off No. 18) and Hiskey (second group off No. 18) following.

UP NEXT
Following the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, the Cougars open October when they tee off at the Trinity Forest Invitational at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas on Oct. 6-8.
Houston then wraps up its fall season at The Bryson Invitational on the Ralston Creek Course at Daniel Island Club in Charleston, S.C., on Oct. 13-15.
The Cougars will enjoy the holiday break before opening the spring season when they play host to the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas, on Feb. 16-17, 2026. The Cougars welcome HCU, Illinois State, Lamar, Louisiana, New Mexico State, North Texas, Sam Houston, Tarleton State, Troy, UT Rio Grande Valley, Wichita State and Wright State to the tournament.
