PREVIEW: Volleyball Starts Big 12 Conference Play at #9 TCU

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – The Houston Volleyball team makes its first serve in Big 12 Conference play against #9 TCU with a 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, tilt at Schollmaier Arena.

Houston finished non-conference play strong, taking two out of three matches at the Cougar Challenge last weekend. After falling in a five-set heartbreaker to Liberty to open the weekend, the Cougars bounced back with sweeps of North Alabama and McNeese.
The Cougars are 4-2 in conference openers under Head Coach David Rehr, including a 1-1 mark while in the Big 12. Houston is also 5-1 under Coach Rehr in conference road openers.
Redshirt senior Barakat Rahmon sits at seventh in the country with a .472 hitting percentage.
Houston has opened conference play on the road in each of the last three seasons.
Senior Alana Torres-Rivera posted 30 digs against McNeese, the second most in a three-set match in the NCAA this season and the third most in a three-set match in program history.
Nine of Houston's 17 players are newcomers to the team this year, including five freshmen and four transfers. Among the freshmen are libero Gillian Pitts, outside hitters Tara Greenberry and Aubrey Sears and setters Tenesyn Frye and Olivia Klimis. Outside hitters Brenya Reid, Halle Schroder, Alyssa Gonzales and setter Lottie Scully make up the 2025 transfer class for the Cougars.
Rehr is in his seventh season at the helm of the Cougars. In his time with Houston, he's posted a 122-64 record, including a 72-31 record in conference play and 18-18 mark in the Big 12.
The Cougars' blocking effort has been a highlight for the team this season. Ranking 22^nd in the nation with 2.76 blocks per set, the mark currently sits as Houston's highest mark since 1998 when the team amassed 3.03 per set.
Senior Lottie Scully stands highly among the nation's top setters with her 2,788 career assists, ranking 25^th among active Division I players.
Redshirt senior Kellen Morin also ranks highly among active NCAA Division I players, sitting 44^th with an average of 1.02 blocks per set.
