ABOUT THE COUGARS
- Houston enters 2025 with a brandnew coaching staff as Ben Williams was named head coach of the Cougars in February.
- Williams spent the 2024 season leading SFA to the Southland Conference Regular Season and Tournament titles.
- Graduate Jaden Humbyrd, junior Kyrsten Kizer and sophomore Casey Maddox were named captains for the 2025 season as voted on by their teammates.
- Houston returns just two goals and three assists from the 2024 campaign. Senior Cameryn Maddox netted both goals while Kizer, junior Charlotte Richardson and sophomore Amanda Adams each tallied an assist.
- The Cougars feature a revamped roster as they welcome 15 newcomers to the team including 11 transfers and four freshmen.
- Those 11 transfers bring over 300 caps, 17,000 minutes played and 11 conference titles.
- Graduate Alex Whitcraft returns for her final season of eligibility and needs just nine starts to crack the top-10 in career games started in program history.
- Cameryn Maddox needs just four goals to join the program's top-10 in career goals scored.
- The Cougars will be without two key players this season as senior Laney Gonzales and sophomore Elizabeth Bigala suffered injuries in the offseason.
- UTSA enters 2025 with just nine returners from a team that went 8-7-3 in 2024.
- Of those nine returners, four saw action in every match.
- The Roadrunners are a young group as 21 players are underclassmen including 17 redshirt and true freshmen.
- UTSA returns four goals and all 61 of their saves from a season ago.
- The Cougars and Roadrunners meet for the 11th time in program history.
- Houston leads the series, 6-3-1, with the Cougars holding a six-match undefeated streak.
- Last meeting: Houston defeated UTSA 2-1 in Houston (Aug. 20, 2024).Â
