Men’s Golf Opens Spring Season at Two Tournaments

Seven Cougars to compete as individuals at Houston Classic at Golf Club of Houston and Bentwater Intercollegiate at Bentwater Yacht & Country Club starting Monday morning
HUMBLE, Texas & MONTGOMERY, Texas – Seven University of Houston Men's Golf student-athletes will compete as individuals at two tournaments in the region to open the Cougars' 2025 spring in recent additions to the team schedule.
Junior Ruben Lindsay, sophomore Chi Chun Chen, senior Laurenz Schiergen and sophomore Hudson Weibel will tee off at the Houston Classic at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas. Freshman Hsuan-Yi Chen, sophomore Grant Doggett and junior Bryant Hiskey II will compete on the Miller Course at Bentwater Yacht & Country Club during the Bentwater Intercollegiate.
Both tournaments will play with 36 holes Monday and the Final Round teeing off Tuesday.

ABOUT the COUGARS
Houston Classic
Through four fall tournaments, Weibel stands second among the Cougars with a 71.33 scoring average. The Dallas native posted a 3-1-1 record at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament in October and tied for second at the White Sands WVU Invitational with a score of 16-under 200 after firing three straight rounds in the 60s, including a career-low 65 in the Second Round later that month.
Schiergen recorded a 72.44 scoring average in three fall tournaments and tied for 12th at the Windon Memorial Classic in late September with a score of even-par 213 after shooting 70-71 during the final 36 holes.
Chen tied for fifth at the season-opening Argent Financial Classic in early September, thanks to three straight rounds of par or lower. He added back-to-back Top-25 finishes at the Windon Memorial Classic in late September and the White Sands WVU Invitational in late October.
Lindsay competed in two tournaments during the fall and tied for 35th at the White Sands WVU Invitational after posting 71-72 scores during the final two rounds.
Bearkat Intercollegiate
Hiskey fired three straight rounds of par or lower at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic to tie for 23rd with a score of 2-under 214 in late September.
Doggett competed in two fall tournaments and earned an individual win against West Virginia during the Big 12 Match Play Tournament in October.
Chen will make his collegiate debut at the Bearkat Intercollegiate following an award-winning junior career.
TEAM FIELD
For the Houston Classic, the Cougars will compete against student-athletes from Rogers State, Mississippi College, Southern Arkansas, Arkansas-Fort Smith, Central Oklahoma, Missouri-St. Louis, Dallas Baptist, Oklahoma Christian, Arkansas Tech, Midwestern State, Cameron, Henderson State, Arkansas-Monticello, West Texas A&M, Harding and host Southern Nazarene.
For the Bentwater Intercollegiate, the Cougars will compete against student-athletes from Stephen F. Austin, Houston Christian, UIW, Tarleton State, UT Arlington, Chattanooga, Rice, Southeastern Louisiana, Prairie View A&M, Midland College, Texas A&M-Commerce, Central Arkansas, TCU, Texas Southern, Abilene Christian and host Sam Houston.

UP NEXT
Following the Houston Classic and Bearkat Intercollegiate, Houston opens the spring season as a team at the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas, on Feb. 17-18, 2025.
The Cougars then compete at the Cabo Collegiate at Twin Dolphin Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on March 2-4, 2025, before returning home to play host to their All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston on March 17-18, 2025.
