
Track & Field Concludes Day One at Robert Platt Invitational

Action resumes at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, with heptathlon events
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field wrapped up the first day of action at the Robert Platt Invitational with two victories, four second-place finishes and one third-place finish inside Yeoman Fieldhouse on Friday.
Freshman Grace MacDonald secured the first victory of the weekend as she crossed the finish line first in the women's 1000m at 2:55.03 followed by freshman Emily Pharris in second at 2:55.70.
The women's pole vault squad had another successful weekend as they secured their second sweep of the season with freshman Evina Panagiotou coming out on top with her mark of 4.07m (13-4.25) to tie for third in program history. Freshman Kaylee Daniel placed second with a clearance of 3.87m (12-8.25) and sophomore Laney Kucera took third with her mark of 3.72m (12-2.50)
Freshman middle-distance runner Invida Maurina made her collegiate debut on a high note as she was second to cross the finish line in the women's 400-meter in 55.55.
Junior Zaeda Houff secured second place on her second attempt in the women's weight throw with her throw of 17.24m (56-6.75).
Junior hurdler Kaycee McCoy reset her personal best time to 8.23 in the women's 60-meter hurdles prelims and is now tied for fifth on Houston's all-time performance list. McCoy will compete in the semifinals alongside sophomore Madison Dominguez, redshirt sophomore Tairah Johnson and junior Tia Outlaw on Saturday.
Houston will have a total of eight Cougars in the men's 60-meter hurdles semifinals as senior Jamar Marshall Jr. (7.80), sophomore Jairius Burton (7.91), sophomore Logan Lyght (7.92), junior Anthony Trucks (7.96), senior John Adesola (8.02), sophomore Gerardo Mejia (8.06), senior Tyler Graves (8.10) and freshman Noah Hanson (8.13) secured their spots during the prelims.
The Cougars also secured seven spots in the men's 60-meter semifinals as Adesola (6.77), Hanson (6.82), junior Ryan Mulholland (6.87), junior Gerard Holmes (6.92), junior Christopher Johnson (6.92), freshman JayShon Ridgle (6.94) and junior Brice Chabot (6.94) placed in the top-24.
Freshmen Taylor Jackson (7.66) and Journie Franklin (7.75) will compete in the women's 60-meter semifinals on Saturday.
