
Laurenz Schiergen Leads Men’s Golf at Windon Memorial Classic

Senior posts even-par 71 in Final Round on Monday to tie for 12th; Cougars finish ninth as a team
LAKE FOREST, Ill. & HOUSTON – University of Houston senior Laurenz Schiergen earned a 12th-place finish to lead the Cougars during the Final Round of the Windon Memorial Classic on Monday afternoon.
After Second-Round play was halted due to darkness Sunday evening, Schiergen returned to the 7,432-yard, par-71 course Monday morning to shoot a 70 and then drained four birdies in the afternoon session for a 71 to tie for 12th at 1-under 212 with South Florida's Shubham Jaglan and Northwestern's Niall Shiels Donegan.
Schiergen collected the 10th Top-20 finish of his career and his third as a Cougar. His showing topped his Houston previous best of 15th at the Valspar Collegiate Individual on March 25-26.
As a team, the Cougars finished the Final Round with a score of 284 for a ninth-place showing. Houston opened the tournament at 300 and bettered that by 15 strokes with a 285 in the completion of the Second Round.
Sophomore Chi Chun fired the Cougars' low round of the day with a 70 Monday. The Tainan, Taiwan, native sank four birdies in the Final Round and joined with senior Jacob Borow in tying for 25th at 218.
Junior Hudson Weibel tied for 46th at 222 while senior Wolfgang Glawe tied for 59th at 226.
Arizona won the team championship with a score of 841 to finish three shots ahead of Marquette. Host Northwestern finished third at 854 with Kansas (858), South Florida (849), Illinois (861), Pepperdine (862) and Notre Dame (864) completing the Top Eight.
Marquette's Patrick Adler earned medalist honors with a score of 11-under 202. Arizona's Tiger Christensen finished second at 207 while Notre Dame's Jacob Modleski and Arizona teammate Zach Pollo tied for third at 208.
BAYOU CITY COLLEGIATE CLASSIC
In a recent addition to the Cougars' fall schedule, juniors Bryant Hiskey II and Ruben Lindsay and sophomore Grant Doggett compete as individuals at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club.
Hiskey and Doggett each finished the first 36 holes at 2-under 142 to tie for 24th on the 7,184-yard, par-72 course. Doggett enjoyed the Cougars' low round of the day with a 70 in the morning, thanks to seven birdies.
Lindsay was tied for 79th at 160.,
The Final Round tees off Tuesday morning.
