Junior Sacha Ruiz ties for 13th to lead Cougars in Houston debut; Senior Chi Chun Chen leads with 73 in Final Round
FRISCO, Texas – University of Houston Men's Golf senior Chi Chun Chen drained three birdies on the way to a team-best 73 to lead the Cougars during the Final Round of the Jackson T. Stephens Cup at Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco on Tuesday evening.
Starting off No. 10 on the 7,482-yard, par-72 course, Chen rallied from a tough start which saw him at +3 through his first four holes. Fortunately, the Taiwan native rallied to drained two birdies midway through his first nine and was tied for 18th at 151.
Making his Houston debut this week, junior Sacha Ruiz led the Cougars with a 54-hole total of 147 to tie for 13th. The Le Havre, France joined the Cougars and Mike Booker Head Coach Andrew Dannas after transferring from Florida Gulf Coast this summer.
As a team, the Cougars finished sixth with a score of 897.
Junior Hsuan-Yi Chen tied for 21st at 153 while senior Grant Doggett tied for 28th at 156. Making his Houston debut with Danna and Ruiz, junior Brett Moore finished 36th at 166.
Texas held the stroke play lead with a score of 839. Texas A&M finished second at 860 while Rice (862), Utah (889) and SMU (882) rounded out the Top-Five leaders.
Texas teammates Daniel Bennett and Matt Comegys shared medalist honors at 135. Shiv Parmar (Texas A&M) finished third at 138 while teammate Wheaton Ennis stood in fourth at 139.
The tournament concludes with one round of match play, which begins Wednesday morning. Texas will face Texas A&M for the tournament championship while Utah meets Rice.

ABOUT the JACKSON T. STEPHENS CUP
Held annually since 2021, the Jackson T. Stephens Cup features some of the nation's top programs. In addition to the 12 competing men's and women's teams, the tournament features prominent individual student-athletes from the U.S. Military Academy and U.S. Naval Academy and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
The event is named in honor of the late Jackson (Jack) T. Stephens, former chairman of Augusta National Golf Club.
