PREVIEW: Men’s Golf Closes Regular Season at Thunderbird Collegiate

Cougars tee off at Papago Golf Club with 36 holes set for Friday and Final Round on Saturday
PHOENIX, Ariz. – The University of Houston Men's Golf program closes out its regular-season schedule when it competes at the Thunderbird Collegiate at Papago Golf Club beginning Friday morning.Schools will play 36 holes beginning at 8:45 a.m. (CDT) Friday with the Final Round teeing off at 8:45 a.m. (CDT) Saturday, on the 7,551-yard, par-71 course.
The tournament features five of the nation's Top-15 teams and 10 of the Top 50.

MEET the COUGARS
Under the leadership of Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, the Cougars will be represented by super senior Austyn Reily, junior Wolfgang Glawe, junior Laurenz Schiergen, junior Jacob Borow and freshman Chi Chun Chen. Freshman Grant Doggett will compete as an individual.
This season, Borow ranks second on the team with a 72.43 scoring average and nine rounds of par or better. The Lake Jackson, Texas, native won medalist honors at the HCU Colin Montgomerie Invitational on March 4-5 for the first collegiate title of his career and tied for 14th at the Cougars' All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston on March 18-19.
Reily is third on the team with a 72.50 average and tied for 11th at The Papago Individual event at Papago Golf Club on Sept. 18-19, 2023.
TEAM FIELDThe Cougars will compete in a 17-team field featuring #7 Washington, #8 Arizona, #13 Texas Tech, #14 Oklahoma, #21 New Mexico, #32 Oklahoma State, #33 UCLA, #42 SMU, Utah, Washington State, Oregon State, Colorado, San Francisco, USC and host and fourth-ranked Arizona State.
TEE TIMES
For Friday's First Round, Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from Utah, Washington State and Oregon State, beginning off No. 1 at 9:35 a.m. (CDT).

This week, Houston will be without the services of senior All-American Santiago De La Fuente, who is competing as an amateur at The Masters at Augusta National Golf Club.
De La Fuente earned his place in The Masters by capturing the title at the Latin America Amateur Championship at Santa Maria Golf Club in Panama City, Panama, in late January. He posted scores of 66-64 during the final two rounds to earn medalist honors by two strokes.
In addition to his invitation to The Masters, De La Fuente also received exemptions as the Latin America Amateur Championship medalist to play in the 2024 U.S. Open Championship at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club (Course No. 2) in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C., on June 13-16 and 2024 The Open Championship, set for Royal Troon Old Course in Troon, South Ayrshire, Scotland on July 18-21.
UP NEXT
Following the Thunderbird Intercollegiate, Houston enters the postseason when it tees off in its first Big 12 Championships, set for April 22-24 at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas.
The winner of the league's annual postseason event earns an automatic bid into the NCAA Regionals, set for March 13-15 at one of six sites across the nation.
Those postseason venues include The University of Texas Golf Club (Austin, Texas; hosted by Texas); University Club (Baton Rouge, La., hosted by LSU); UNC Finley Golf Course (Chapel Hill, N.C.; hosted by North Carolina); The Farms Golf Club (Rancho Santa Fe., Calif.; hosted by San Diego); Stanford Golf Course (Stanford, Calif., hosted by Stanford) and Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex (West Lafayette, Ind; hosted by Purdue).
The top five teams and top individual not on a qualifying team at each NCAA Regional advance to the NCAA Championships set for Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., on May 24-29.
