Senior ties mark with bogey-free First Round at Ocean Club Golf Course in Bahamas

Glawe drained a team-high nine birdies on the 6,943-yard, par-72 course, including five in a seven-hole stretch at one point, to hold a one-stroke lead over Charleston's Kieron Van Wyk.
The St. Leon-Rot, Germany, native became only the fourth Cougar to shoot 63 or lower in a round and the first since All-American Michael Perras reached that total in the First Round of the HBU Husky Intercollegiate on Sept. 21, 2015.
He joined Andy Sanders (Final Round, Red River Classic, Oct. 12, 1999) and Ray Barr (Harvey Penick Intercollegiate, Final Round, Nov. 12, 1990) in that exclusive group.
As a team, the Cougars finished the First Round with a 16-under 272 to stand one shot behind Charleston. Maryland was in third at 276 with Ball State (280) and Northern Illinois (280) rounding out the Top-Five teams.
Starting his day off No. 7, Glawe moved under par with a birdie on his first hole and added another one on the 433-yard, par-4 ninth hole. He then drained three straight birdies on Nos. 11-13 and alternated pars and birdies over the following four holes.
Glawe added another birdie on No. 1 and, after four straight pars, sank his ninth birdie of the day on his final hole at No. 6 to etch his name into the Houston records book.
Glawe wasn't the only Cougar with bogey-free low round Friday. Junior Hudson Weibel fired a career-best 66 to tie for fourth with two rounds to go.
Starting off No. 6, the Dallas native moved under par with a birdie at No. 7 and drained four birdies in a five-hole stretch at Nos. 13-17, including three straight on Nos. 15-17.
Following four straight pars, Weibel buried his final birdie at No. 4.
Sophomore Chi Chun Chen was tied for 13th with a 70 after five birdies in his opening round.
Seniors Laurenz Schiergen and Jacob Borow were tied for 39th at 73 while junior Ruben Lindsay – playing as an individual – was tied for 48th at 74.
Maryland's Emil Riegger stood in third with a 65 while Nevill Ruiter joined Weibel in a tie for fourth at 66.
Schools will play 18 holes with 7 a.m. (CDT) shotgun starts each day through Sunday.
