
Svedenskiold Finishes 2nd at The American Championships

Cougars finish fourth at Southern Hills Plantation Club
BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – For the third straight day, University of Houston freshman Moa Svedenskiold posted a sub-par round to finish second at the American Athletic Conference Championships with a score of 8-under 208 on Wednesday afternoon.
Competing in her first collegiate postseason event at Southern Hills Plantation Club, Svedenskiold sank four birdies in the Final Round on the way to a 70 on the 6,289-yard, par-72 course.
The Halmstad, Sweden, native opened the tournament with scores of 70-68 on the first two days.
With her impressive performance, Svedenskiold tied the Houston record for the lowest 54-hole total at The American Championships. She equaled the mark set by All-American Leonie Harm on the Conservatory Course at Hammock Beach Resort & Golf Club at the 2019 tournament.
Starting off No. 1, Svedenskiold moved under par early with a birdie on the 342-yard, par-3 second hole and added another birdie on No. 8.
Following a bogey at No. 11, she quickly recovered with another birdie on the par-5 12th hole and added her final birdie of the tournament on the par-5 16th hole.
Junior Nicole Abelar joined Svedenskiold among the Top-15 leaders with a score of 217 to tie for 14th. Super senior Annie Kim tied for 17th with a score of 218 after shooting a 72 Wednesday while freshman Alexa Saldana tied for 21st at 219. Freshman Natalie Saint Germain tied for 30th at 224.
#26 SMU captured the team championship with a score of 839 to finish 14 shots ahead of #19 UCF. #37 Tulsa finished third at 859 with South Florida (864) completing the Top Five leaders.
SMU's Michell Zhang earned medalist honors with a score of 201. UCF's Jess Baker finished third at 210 while South Florida's Melanie Green came in fifth at 211. Lauren Miller (SMU) and Anna Nordfors (212) tied for fifth at 212.

Following the American Athletic Conference Championships, the Cougars look to compete in NCAA Regional play.
The Cougars will learn their NCAA postseason fate during the NCAA Selection Show, set to air at Noon, Wednesday, April 26, on Golf Channel.
NCAA Regionals will be held May 8-10 at six sites across the nation. Those locations include University of Georgia Golf Course (Athens, Ga.); PGA National Resort (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.); Palouse Ridge Golf Club (Pullman, Wash.); Lonnie Poole Golf Course (Raleigh, N.C.); TPC San Antonio (San Antonio, Texas) and The Club at Chatham Hills (Westfield, Ind.).
Each NCAA Regional site will feature 12 teams and six individuals. The Top Four teams and top two student-athletes (not on an advancing team) qualify for the NCAA Championships to be played at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., on May 19-24.
