
Rehr Reaches 100 Houston Wins as #22 Volleyball Sweeps Oklahoma

Rehr becomes fastest coach to 100 Houston wins in NCAA era
NORMAN, Okla. – Head Coach David Rehr won his 100th match as the leader of the University of Houston Volleyball team as the Cougars swept Oklahoma on Friday night at McCasland Field House.Â

Houston (16-7, 9-5 Big 12) won its seventh straight match with the three-set victory over Oklahoma (9-15, 2-12 Big 12). The Cougars have posted six sweeps during its win streak, dropping only one set in the timeframe.

Senior Kate Georgiades led the defensive effort for Houston with 17 digs in the match. Graduate Kenna Sauer paced the team with 15 kills, narrowly missing a double-double with nine digs.Â

Junior Kellen Morin and graduate Abbie Jackson tied for the team lead with three blocks each. Morin added to her totals with seven kills and no errors while Jackson tallied eight kills and eight digs.Â

SET ONE
Houston took a quick lead on the back of a 3-0 run for a 3-1 advantage. After trading points to push the score to 8-6, the Cougars rallied on Tullos' serve for another 3-0 rally to take an 11-6 lead and force an Oklahoma timeout. Houston continued to roll, stringing together short bursts and holding the Sooners to a .110 hitting percentage to win the set, 25-19.Â

Georgiades tallied 10 digs in the opening frame while Jackson and Sauer each tallied four kills each.Â

SET TWO
The Cougars kept the momentum in the second, opening on a 5-0 run and never looking back. After 15 points, Houston held a 11-4 advantage and used a 3-0 run to extend its lead to nine at 14-5. The Sooners closed the gap with a pair of 4-0 runs to shrink Houston's lead to 22-20, but the Cougars hung on to take the second, 25-22.Â

Sauer posted seven kills in the second, with Georgiades adding five digs.

SET THREE
The teams battled to open the third with Houston opening up a narrow 6-4 lead after 10 points. The Sooners continued to hang around, trailing by only one at 9-8, but Houston opened up the lead with a 4-0 run to take a 13-8 advantage. Another 4-0 stretch extended the Cougars' lead to eight at 18-10 and Houston clinched the sweep with a 5-0 run, sealing a 25-13 set win.

Sauer added another four kills in the final set while four Cougars each posted two kills each. Houston also recorded three blocks in the third, bringing its total to six on the match.Â

Houston returns home for a pair of matches, facing off against TCU and Iowa State. The Cougars battle the Horned Frogs at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, followed by a 7 p.m. Friday tilt against the Cyclones.Â
