
Men’s Golf Finishes Season at NCAA Stockton Regional

Junior Austyn Reily finishes at even-par 216 to lead Cougars; Junior Marcus Wochner with low round of day
STOCKTON, Calif. – University of Houston junior Marcus Wochner drained a team-high six birdies to lead the Cougars during the Final Round of the NCAA Stockton Regional at The Reserve at Spanos Park on Wednesday afternoon.
Starting his day off No. 10 on the 7,315-yard, par-72 course, Wochner quickly moved to red numbers with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 11-12 and moved to 4-under with consecutive birdies again on Nos. 16-17.
Rebounding from a triple-bogey 7 on No. 18, the Holte, Denmark, native made birdie on the par-4 first hole and added his final birdie of the day on No. 6 to finish the three-day, 54-hole postseason tournament at 217 and tie for 44th.
Fellow junior Austyn Reily sank six birdies in his final round with four through the first eight holes Wednesday. The Pottsboro, Texas, native finished with a 73 and was the Cougars' low performer at even-par 216 to tie for 39th.
Competing in his final collegiate event with the Cougars, senior Alexander Frances finished with a 72 and tied for 44th at 217. The Stege, Denmark, native ended his career among Houston's Top-10 career leaders in rounds played and strokes.
Redshirt freshman Jacob Borow posted a 72 in Wednesday's action and finished 62nd at 223, while senior Braxton Watkins tied for 65th at 225.
As a team, the Cougars posted a score of 2-under 286 for the second straight day and finished 12th with a score of 867.

No. 4 Arizona State won the Regional championship with a score of 826 to finish 10 shots ahead of No. 16 Stanford. No. 46 BYU finished third at 837 with No. 28 Oregon (843) and No. 38 Liberty (846) rounding out the Top Five Those teams advanced to the NCAA Championships, set for May 27-June 1 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
BYU's Carson Lundell fired a 68 for the second straight day and finished at 11-under 205 to win medalist honors. Arizona State's Mason Andersen and Stanford's Barclay Brown tied for second at 206, while BYU's David Timmins finished fourth at 207.
Washington's RJ Manke defeated LSU's Drew Doyle to qualify for the NCAA Championships as the lowest individual not from an advancing team.
This marked the second straight season in which the Cougars advanced to the NCAA Regional under Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke and the eighth time during his Houston career.
This was the first time the Cougars have played in California since the 2017 NCAA Stanford Regional.

This was Houston's 22nd team appearance in NCAA Regional play during the program's rich history.
In 2021, the Cougars finished ninth at the NCAA Kingston Springs Regional at Golf Club of Tennessee. Frances opened that tournament with a 69 and tied with Matt Cole for the team lead at 215.
In its history, Houston has recorded nine Top-Five team finishes in NCAA Regional play with four student-athletes capturing individual titles (Michael Perras, 2016 NCAA Franklin Regional; Blair Hamilton, 2015 NCAA Lubbock Regional; Brett Callas, 2003 NCAA Central and Dean Larsson, 1994 NCAA Central).
