
Moa Svedenskiold Shares Jim West Challenge Individual Title

Freshman becomes fastest Cougar to win tournament in program history
SAN MARCOS, Texas – University of Houston freshman Moa Svedenskiold fired a 68 for the second straight day to share the individual championship with a 54-hole score of 8-under 208 at the Jim West Challenge on Monday afternoon.
The day started on a rough note for Svedenskiold, who bogeyed the par-4 13th hole. After four straight pars, she returned to even par with a birdie on the 241-yard, par-4 18th hole and moved to 3-under in the round after alternating birdie and par over the next three holes, starting on No. 3.
The Halmstad, Sweden, native endured her final bogey of the day at No. 8 but rallied with birdies on No. 9 and No. 11 to tie with Tulane's Carla Bernat and collect the first individual title of her collegiate career.
Svedenskiold became the first freshman in school history to win an individual title and became the fastest Cougar to earn a championship, collecting the hardware in only her third event.
As a team, the 25th-ranked Cougars posted a team score of 284 for the second straight day and finished third with a score of 861. No. 27 Oklahoma State won the team championship with a score of 855 to finish two shots ahead of
No. 21 SMU.
No. 34 Texas Tech (863), Tulane (865), No. 42 Tulsa (867), No. 31 Ohio State (869), No. 43 TCU (869), Oklahoma (873) and Colorado (879) completed the Top 10.
Freshman Natalie Saint German finished with a 71 Monday and tied with junior Nicole Abelar for 26th at 218. Freshman Alexa Saldana tied for 43rd at 223, while super senior Annie Kim tied for 60th at 227. Playing as an individual, junior Delaney Martin finished 77th at 236.
TCU's Caitlyn Macnab came in third at 209, while Oklahoma's Mikhaela Fortune, Mackenzie Lee of SMU and Grace Kilcrease of Tulsa tied for fourth at 211.

Following the Jim West Challenge, Houston closes its fall schedule when it tees off at the Battle at the Beach, hosted by TCU at Club Campestre San Jose in San Jose del Cabo, B.C.S., Mexico on Oct. 28-30.
From there, the Cougars will take a break before opening the spring season at the Lamkin Invitational at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., on Feb. 13-14, 2023.
Houston then returns home to play host to the ICON Invitational at Golf Club of Houston on Feb. 27-28, 2023, in Humble, Texas.
