Cougars take 3-0 win to move to 10-2 entering American Athletic Conference play
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Houston junior outside hitter Abbie Jackson blasted 15 kills and added six digs to lead the Cougars to a 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-19) win over Tennessee Tech during the finale of the Bama Bash inside Foster Auditorium.
Â
In the first set, the Cougars built a 23-20 lead before Tennessee Tech rallied to knot the match at 24-24 on a Cougar attack error. But Houston took advantage of a Golden Eagle service error and a kill from graduate middle blocker Bridget Wallenberger to take the 1-0 lead.
Â
In the second set, the two teams went back and forth to a 19-19 tie before the Cougars closed the set with six of the last seven points. Jackson led the way with a pair of kills, while sophomore setter Annie Cooke added an ace.
Â
In the final frame, Houston jumped out to a 10-4 lead and never trailed by fewer than three points for the rest of the way.
Â
With the win, the Cougars capped their regular-season, non-conference schedule with an impressive 10-2 mark. Tennessee Tech dropped to 5-5.
Â
Sophomore setter Annie Cooke led the Cougars with 16 assists and totaled 11 digs for her first double-double of the season. Senior Peanut Childers added 13 kills with five digs.
