Houston Captures Fourth Consecutive Conference Title

Cougars win 17 conference titles and score second-most point in championships history
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team defended its American Athletic Conference title for the fourth straight season, winning the team title with a total of 952.5 points on Saturday night at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center.
Houston left no doubt that it is the team to beat in The American capturing 17 individual championships in its home pool, accumulating the second-most points by a women's team in Championships history. UH
swept the relays for the second straight year and added a sweep of the diving events to its resume. The Cougars closed out the weekend with nine program records. SMU finished second with 640.50 points, followed by Cincinnati in third-place with 562 points.
Head Coach Ryan Wochomurka earned his fourth consecutive conference women's coach of the year title, surpassing Houston great Phill Hansel for most conference coach of the year honors. Diving coach Bob Gunter was named The American women's diving coach of the year, coaching Houston to a sweep of the diving events. Senior diver Lauren Burrell earned The American Diver of the Year award, earning titles in both the 1-meter and 3-meter. Seniors Zarena Brown and Peyton Kondis were tabbed as Co-Swimmers of the Year for the league, combining for four individual titles.
Samantha Medlin continued to show her strength in the Freestyle, finishing seventh in the 1650 Free at 16.42.81. the seventh-fastest time in program history in the event.
The Cougar divers captured yet another title, sweeping the women's diving events as Chase Farris notched a total score of 263.10 in the Platform final. Farris tallied up 63.00 points on her fourth attempt after completing a Forward 3 ½ Somersault Pike. Earlier in the day Katie Deininger set a meet record in the event with a prelim score of 283.50, shattering the record set by former Cougar Taylor Olanski. Deininger finished fourth (243.50), Jolie Blodgett finished fifth (227.45) and Lauren Burrell finished sixth (211.40).
Ioanna Sacha captured the title in the 200 Back, touching in at 1:54.96 to shattering her own program record in the event. Laura Laderoute earned another podium finish after winning the 100 Back yesterday evening, clocking in at 1:56.26 for second-place. Monique Rae finished fifth at 1:57.17 as Kaley Hoffman took third in the B-Final at 2:00.33.
Just shy of a program-best time, Mykenzie Leehy earned the crown in the 100 Free with a finish of 48.67. Zarena Brown took second with a time of 48.98. The Cougars swept the B-Final as Katie Power swam a 49.83 for first-place, followed by Rachel Hicks in second-place (50.87) and Hanna Blewett in third (50.96). Elizabeth Richardson finished eighth at 51.57.
Peyton Kondis earn another title to close out her stellar career at Houston, winning the 200 Breaststroke at 2:09.93, as Angeliki Mavrantza took second-place at 2:10.94. Audrey McKinnon finish in eighth-place at 2:16.79.
In the final race of the weekend, Leehy, Power, Laderoute and Brown combine for the fastest time in program history in the 400 Freestyle relay. The squad touched in at 3:17.39 to widen its lead and captured it fourth conference title.
