Cougars prepare for eighth-straight contest on the road
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Volleyball team continues its 11-match road swing with a trip to Houston Baptist for a midweek matchup with the Huskies at 6 p.m., inside Sharp Gym, Tuesday.
Houston is coming off a hard-fought weekend at the Baylor Invitational, where the Cougars found themselves going up against some of the best competition in the nation in then-No. 5 Baylor and Tennessee, which was receiving votes. After Houston began the tournament falling to the Lady Bears in four frames, the Cougars dropped a heartbreaker to the Lady Vols in five sets.
Senior libero Katie Karbo anchored the back row for Houston throughout the weekend, being honored as the tournament's Best Defender. The Azle, Texas, product led the Cougars with 42 digs in Houston's two matches, averaging 4.67 digs per set.
The dynamic pairing of junior setter Abby Irvine and freshman outside hitter Abbie Jackson also paced the Cougars, as the two combined to post three double-doubles in the Houston's two matches. Irvine's pair of double-doubles were her fourth and fifth of the season, while Jackson's was her fourth of the 2019 campaign.
