Cougars are 5-0 on the road this season
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Volleyball team puts its five-match winning streak on the line as the Cougars travel to Waco, Texas, for the Baylor Invitational from Sept. 12-13.
Â
Houston will begin the tournament putting its talents amongst the best in the nation, when the Cougars face the No. 5 Baylor Lady Bears at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Baylor will be the highest ranked opponent Houston's faced since the Cougars squared up against No. 4 Texas in 1996.Â
Â
The Cougars will wrap up the event on Friday when Houston matches up with Tennessee, marking the first time the two teams will meet since 2011, when the Cougars won, 3-2.
Â
Last time out, the Cougars took down Lamar by a score of 3-1 in Beaumont, Texas. Freshman outside hitter Abbie Jackson continued to make her presence felt on the court, slamming home a match-high 20 kills and posting 12 digs, marking the third double-double of her career.
Â
Junior setter Abby Irvine finished the contest leading all players with 40 helpers and tacked on 10 digs as well for her third double-double of the season. She has eclipsed the 40-assist plateau in each of her past five matches.
Â
Defensively, senior libero Katie Karbo rounded out the list of Cougars who posted 10 or more digs, recording a match-high 32. Senior outside hitter Megan Duncan finished the night with 10 kills, having now reached that mark in three of her last four contests.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
- Houston is seeking to continue its hot start away from the Fertitta Center, as the Cougars are a perfect 5-0 on the road this year.
- Freshman Abbie Jackson has emerged as an offensive juggernaut for the Cougars. As the reigning American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, Jackson is coming off a week where she averaged 5.44 kills per set and led Houston to an undefeated record.
- Commanding the Houston offense has been a familiar face in junior setter Abby Irvine, who continues to make an impact, having written her name in the record books. In Houston's win over UTSA, Irvine handed out a career-high 50 assists, marking the first time a Cougar has reached the 50-assist plateau since 2014.
- With 20 or more digs in each of her past three matches, senior libero Katie Karbo looks to continue to climb the charts in the Houston record book as one of the best liberos in program history. She enters the weekend ranked fourth in career digs (1,898) and second in digs per set (4.00). Karbo needs just 18 digs to move into third all-time in total career digs.
