STANFORD, Calif. â€" Competing in his final collegiate round, University of Houston senior Matt Scobie led the Cougars with a score of 73 during the Final Round at the NCAA Stanford Regional.
A native of Ajax, Ontario, Canada, Scobie overcame a slow start that saw him post four bogeys on his first seven holes on the 6,727-yard, par-70 layout at Stanford Golf Course. However, he rebounded with a pair of birdies on his second nine for a team-leading 73 and tied for 33rd overall at 215.
Junior and two-time All-American Athletic Conference honoree Michael Perras finished with a three-day score of 217 to tie for 46th. Fellow All-Conference selection Papito Gonzalez tied for 48th at 218.
Redshirt freshman Zach Tracy tied for 68th at 226, while true freshman Pryce Beshoory tied for 68th at 227.
No. 4 Stanford and No. 9 Baylor tied for the team championship with scores of 823. No. 27 Pepperdine (835), No. 15 Oklahoma (837) and No. 33 North Carolina (843) finished among the top-five leaders and advanced to compete at the NCAA Championships.
No. 21 Georgia Tech (844), No. 41 North Florida (845), No 45 BYU (866) and Ohio State (867) rounded out the top nine.
Individually, Oklahoma's Brad Dalke recorded his third straight round in the 60s and captured medalist honors with a score of 12-under 198. Baylor's Cooper Dossey finished second at 201, while Stanford's Maverick McNealy finished third at 202.
North Florida's Travis Trace finished 10th at 2-under 208 and advanced to the NCAA Championships as an individual.
NCAA REGIONALS HISTORY
This marked the 20th NCAA Regional appearance in Houston history. It was the the program's sixth straight NCAA Regional berth under Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke's leadership.
During its history, Houston has recorded one NCAA Regional team championship, four individual titles and nine top-five finishes.
The Cougars enjoyed individual champions in the 2015 and 2016 NCAA Regionals. Perras captured the championship at the NCAA Franklin Regional in 2016, and Blair Hamilton won the NCAA Lubbock Regional in 2015.
With his 2017 American Championship title, Perras became the first Cougar in school history to win NCAA Regional and conference championship titles during his career.
AT STANFORD
This was the first time the Cougars competed at Stanford during NCAA Regional play. However, it marked Houston's third NCAA postseason appearance there.
The Cougars captured the 1966 NCAA team national championship with the 1981 team finishing third at Stanford Golf Course.
