Houston to Host Annual Red & White Meet

HOUSTON - The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team will host its annual Red & White Meet Thursday giving Cougar fans their first chance to watch the team compete at home. The scrimmage begins at 3 p.m., inside the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium.
Thursday's Red & White Meet is free to the public and the first chance Cougar fans will have to watch head coach Ryan Wochomurka's team compete at home this season. While the Cougars will split into two teams and compete against each other, official times will not be kept.
RETURNERS
Houston is returning six of the seven student-athletes from the 2016 All-American Conference Team. Sophomore Eleanna Koutsouveli swept the backstroke events and podiumed in the 400 IM at the 2016 American Championships. Fellow Sophomore Hannah Herbst won the 500-yard freestyle and placed third in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
On the boards, divers Taylor Olanski will look to four-peat in the platform while Micaela Bouter looks to defend her 3-meter crown.
Back in the pool, junior Ashley Grijalva won bronze in the 100-yard breaststroke and senior Jasmine Williams earned a bronze medal in the 100-yard backstroke.
NEWCOMERS
The Cougars 2016 signing class includes Miami (Fla.) transfer Ksenia Yuskova along with freshman Hanna Blewett, Zarena Brown, Lauren Burrell, Gaby Jimenez, Peyton Kondis, Laura Laderoute, Sydney Larson, Claire Liptak, Emily Longfellow, Hannah Middleton, Victoria Roubique and Isabel Tank.
UP NEXT
Houston will compete at the North Texas Relays, to be held Sept. 30 in Dallas, to face North Texas, SMU and Oklahoma Baptist. This will be the Cougars' fifth consecutive season competing at the UNT Relays and will be one of two trips to Denton to face the Mean Green.
COUGARS TO HOST AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Houston will host the American Athletic Conference Championships for the second consecutive year as the best swimmers and divers in the league visit the CRWC from Feb. 15-18, 2016. Following the conference meet, the Cougars will look to close the season at the NCAA Championships, to be held March 15-18, 2016 in Atlanta.-
