Yuskova Captures 10th at Nationals

HOUSTON - Junior Ksenia Yuskova captured the University of Houston Swimming & Diving team's second top-10 finish on the second day of the AT&T Winter National Championships at the Georgia Tech McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta on Friday.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Yuskova and freshman Zarena Brown earned second swims after finishing 11th and 12th, respectively, during prelims. Yuskova, the Miami (Fla.) transfer dropped 1.09 off her prelims time to finish 10th overall touching the wall at 1:47.10. Brown finished 16th overall, her second top-20 finish of the weekend, with a time of 1:48.72.
Freshman Laura Laderoute nabbed a personal best after netting a top-20 finish in the 400-yard IM. The West Linn, Ore., native, touched the wall at 4:20.09 to take 18th overall. Laderoute dropped 2.96 seconds off her personal best moving her into fourth in program history.
Laderoute also represented the Cougars in the 100-yard backstroke alongside teammate Eleanna Koutsouveli. Sophomore Koutsouveli was the highest finisher for Houston touching the wall at 54.96 to place 23rd overall. With a time of 55.54, Laderoute was able to finish 30th overall.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, freshman Peyton Kondis led the way for the Cougars. The Pittsburg, Penn., native tied for 22nd after nabbing a time of 1:02.52. Fellow freshman Victoria Roubique followed in 24th with a time of 1:02.65 while junior Ashley Grijalva and senior Cameron Balkom finished 54th and 56th, respectively.
In the final event of the evening, the 4x50 relay team of Brown, Yuskova, Hannah Herbst and Eleanna Koutsouveli finished 11th overall touching the wall at 1:35.10.
UP NEXT
Saturday morning, the Cougars will jump back in the pool for the final day of the AT&T Winter National Championships. Prelims will being at 9 a.m. CT, and finals will start at 4:50 p.m. to accommodate TV broadcast.

COUGARS TO HOST AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Houston will host the American Athletic Conference Championships for the second consecutive year as the best swimmers and divers in the league visit the CRWC from Feb. 15-18, 2017. Following the conference meet, the Cougars will look to close the season at the NCAA Championships, to be held March 15-18, 2017 in Indianapolis, Ind.
