Cougars Open Winter Nationals with Top-10 Finish

HOUSTON - The 4x100 medley relay team captured seventh overall while freshman Zarena Brown nabbed a 16th place finish in 500-yard freestyle as the Cougars took to the pool at the AT&T Winter National Championships at the Georgia Tech McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta on Thursday.
In the final event of the night, the Cougars captured a top-10 finish in the 4x100 medley relay. The team of Eleanna Koutsouveli, Peyton Kondis, Sharo Rodriguez and Ksenia Yuskova touched the wall at 3:42.90 to net seventh to close the first night of nationals.
Brown earned a second swim after finishing 15th overall in prelims with a time of 4:50.06. During finals the Arvada, Colo., native, placed 16th overall after nabbing a time of 4:51.44. Fellow Cougars Yuskova and Hannah Herbst also took to the pool during prelims. Yuskova finished 28th touching the wall at 4:58.03 while Herbst placed 30th with a time of 5:00.81.
Freshmen Kondis and Laura Laderoute represented the Cougars in the 200-yard IM. Laderoute was the highest finisher for Houston placing 25th overall with a time of 2:03.08 followed by Kondis in 39th, 2:05.35.
UP NEXT
Friday morning, the Cougars will jump back in the pool for the second day of the AT&T Winter National Championships. Prelims will being at 9 a.m. CT, and finals will start at 5 p.m. CT.

COUGARS TO HOST AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Houston will host the American Athletic Conference Championships for the second consecutive year as the best swimmers and divers in the league visit the CRWC from Feb. 15-18, 2017. Following the conference meet, the Cougars will look to close the season at the NCAA Championships, to be held March 15-18, 2017 in Indianapolis, Ind.
