Cougars Edged 3-1 at East Carolina

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The University of Houston Volleyball team fell 3-1 (14-25, 25-20, 20-25, 24-26) at East Carolina on Thursday night inside Minges Coliseum.
With the decision, the Cougars dropped to 5-23 overall and 0-17 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Pirates improved to 15-12 overall and 5-12 in league action.
Junior setter Keandra McCardell posted her fifth consecutive double-double effort with 20 assists and a career-high 19 digs. The double-double is the ninth for McCardell of the season and 29th overall of her career.
Junior outside hitter Brianna Lynch led the Cougars with 14 kills, while sophomore middle blocker Chenelle Walker finished with nine kills. Junior setter Katie Krebs posted 15 assists. Freshman libero Katie Karbo turned in eight digs.
ECU setter Sabrina Gonzalez recorded 38 assists and 13-digs. I'Tiana Taylor and Sydney Darden finished with 13 and 10 digs, respectfully. Libero Brandee Markwith dug up a match-high 20 balls.
Both teams turned in a .180 attack percentage. Houston led 7-6 in blocks, while the Pirates held a 47-45 edge in kills and 65-51 mark in digs.
ECU never trailed in taking the opening set, 25-14.
The Cougars held the Pirates to a negative .028 clip and got seven kills between Lynch (4) and junior outside hitter Sarah Afflerbaugh (3) to take the second set, 25-20.
In the third set, ECU flipped the script with a 25-20 victory.
Both teams battled late into the fourth set. Tied 24-24, an attack error and service ace sealed the 26-24 edge to close the match 3-1.
