Cougars Fall 3-0 at Cincinnati

CINCINNATI -- The University of Houston Volleyball team closed the road portion of its 2016 schedule falling 3-0 (17-25, 15-25, 16-25) at Cincinnati on Saturday afternoon inside Fifth Third Arena.
With the decision, the Cougars dropped to 5-24 overall and 0-18 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Bearcats improved to 20-9 overall and 15-3 in league action.
Sophomore middle blocker Chenelle Walker led Houston with seven kills. Setters Keandra McCardell and Katie Krebs finished 14 and 12 assists, respectfully. Freshman libero Katie Karbo recorded a team-high 12 digs.
Cincinnati's Carly Nolan recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs. Ciara Hill also finished with 13 kills, while setter Jade Tingelhoff amassed a game-high 32 assists.
The Bearcats outhit Houston .270-.071, leading 41-27 in kills, 46-37 in digs and 11-4 in blocks.
Cincinnati jumped out to an 8-2 lead and never trailed in taking the opening set, 25-17.
In set two, the Bearcats held the Cougars to a negative .057 clip en route to a 25-15 win to hold a 2-0 lead at intermission.
Houston took advantage of three Cincinnati errors and got kills from Walker, junior outside hitter Brianna Lynch and freshman outside hitter Megan Duncan to hold a 6-3 lead early in the third set. Unfortunately, the Bearcats rallied to take a 10-9 advantage and later took the set 25-16 to close the match.

The Cougars will conclude their 2016 schedule with two home matches hosting USF on Nov. 23 and UCF on Nov. 25. The Nov. 25 matchup will mark the final home match for two seniors â€" defensive specialist Marisa Guzman and middle blocker Hunter Wise.
