PEARLAND, Texas -- Making his collegiate debut, University of Houston redshirt freshman Zach Tracy posted his third straight round of par or better on Tuesday to lead the Cougars and finish in a tie for fifth at 2-under 214 during the Final Round of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic.
As a team, the Cougars moved up one play in the final standings and tied for second with a two-day, 54-hole score of 869 on the 7,272-yard, par-72 course at Golfcrest Country Club.
Kansas took home the team championship with a score of 852 to finish 17 strokes ahead of Houston and UT Arlington. Rice (870) and McNeese State (872) rounded out the top-five team leaders.
Lamar's Mans Berglund captured medalist honors at 9-under-207 after firing his third straight sub-par round Tuesday. He finished three strokes ahead of Zach Galliford of UT Arlington and Kansas' Charlie Hillier.
After sitting out as a redshirt during his freshman season in 2015-16, Tracy competed for the first time as a Cougar this week. The Houston native and Seven Lakes High School product started Tuesday's Final Round on No. 10 and birdied back-to-back holes on Nos. 14-15.
Although he battled bogeys in two of his next three holes, he rebounded with a birdie on No. 2 and finished his round with six pars and only one bogey to lead Houston.
Junior Papito Gonzalez joined Tracy among the top-eight leaders. After posting back-to-back sub-par rounds Monday, the McAllen, Texas, native posted a 74 Tuesday for a total of 1-under 215.
Like Tracy, redshirt freshman George Gardner made his debut this week and tied with Gonzalez at 215. The Southlake, Texas, native began his collegiate career with a 4-under 68 in Monday's First Round.
Junior Michael Perras and freshman Pryce Beshoory each tied for 13th at even-par 216. Beshoory, who is a Pearland, Texas, native, enjoyed the team's lone eagle of the day and added a pair of birdies on the way to a 70 and tying for the Cougars' low score of the day.
Perras overcame a slow start on his front nine to sink three birdies with only one bogey during his final eight holes Tuesday.
Senior Matt Dunn, who won the 2015 Bayou City Collegiate Classic individual championship, tied for 21st at 219, while senior Emmett Oh tied for 30th at 220.
Sophomore Logan Davis overcame consecutive 75s Monday to post 1-under 71, thanks to three birdies on Tuesday.
Freshman Tony Gil made his collegiate debut this week and enjoyed an impressive Final Round. The Vaughan, Ontario, Canada, native started his day on No. 10 and shook off an early bogey on No. 12 to finish the day with 12 pars and three birdies to tie Beshoory for the team's low round of the day and surge into a tie for 39th at 222.
It marked the third straight round in which Gil bettered his previous round by at least two strokes.
Junior Alan De Bondt and sophomore Jacob Veerman tied for 44th at 223, while senior Matt Scobie tied for 58th at 227.
