QUERENCIA, LOS CABOS, Mexico - University of Houston senior All-American Roman Robledo fired his second straight sub-par round to finish in a tie for seventh at 3-under-par 139 following the Second Round of the Querencia Cabo Collegiate.
A day after opening the tournament with a 69, Robledo was equally steady with a Second Round that featured two birdies with 15 pars and only one bogey on his final hole of the day on the 6,873-yard, par-70 course at Querencia Golf Club.
As a team, the Cougars posted a score of 290 on Monday to slip into seventh place with a 36-hole total of 575. No. 12 USF held the overall lead at 559 to finish one stroke in front of No. 14 Stanford. No. 2 Florida State (562), No. 19 Washington (563), No. 13 Wake Forest (574) and No. 11 Vanderbilt (574) rounded out the top-6 team leaders.
Freshman Alan De Bondt bettered his First-Round score by six strokes with an even-par 71 on Monday. Competing in his first team-scoring event, the Antwerp, Belgium, native fell to 3-over-par through 14 holes after a double bogey on No. 1 and a bogey on No. 4. However, he rallied impressively with three straight birdies and a par to close out his Second Round and moved into a tie for 43rd at 148.
Other Cougars in action were junior Blair Hamilton and freshman Michael Perras, who were tied for 34th at 146, and senior Kyle Pilgrim who was tied for 49th at 149.
Washington's Cheng-Tsung Pan, Stanford's Viraat Badhwar and USF's Rigel Fernandes were tied for the individual lead at 7-under-par 135. Washington's Corey Pereira finished fourth at 137 with Wake Forest's Will Zalatoris and Rowin Caron of Florida State tied for fifth at 139.
Robledo joined Baylor's Kyle Jones and Chase Koepka of USF in a tie for seventh.
FINAL ROUND on TUESDAY
The tournament wraps up with the Final Round on Tuesday with an 8 a.m., shotgun start. Houston will compete in foursomes with student-athletes from Wake Forest, Vanderbilt and Mississippi
Robledo will begin off No. 6 with Hamilton (No. 7), Perras (No. 8), De Bondt (No. 9) and Pilgrim (No. 10) competing on subsequent holes.

Following the Querencia Cabo Collegiate, the Cougars return to action when they play host to the Border Olympics on March 13-14 at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas. A year ago the Cougars and Robledo swept the team and individual championships for the third straight tournament to open the spring season.
