HUMBLE, Texas - For the second straight day, University of Houston junior Blair Hamilton and sophomore Matt Scobie fired even-par 72s to stand in a tie for 12th place following the Second Round of the Bayou City Collegiate Championships at Golf Club of Houston.
As a team, the Cougars bettered their First-Round score by two strokes but slipped to sixth in the standings with a score of 584 on the 6,967-yard, par-72 Tournament Course. No. 9 South Carolina fired a 13-under-par 275 Second-Round team total to surge into the lead at 565, 10 strokes in front of Sam Houston State and 11 strokes better than No. 38 Arkansas.
Charlotte (579) and Baylor (582) rounded out the top-5 team leaders with Troy (586), UTSA (587), Southeastern Louisiana (588) and New Mexico State (591) following the Cougars.
Individually, Arkansas' Kolton Crawford posted his second straight sub-par round and held the 36-hole lead at 5-under-par 139. Charlotte's Raoul Menard stood in second at 140, while South Carolina's Sean Kelly and Southeastern Louisiana's were tied for third at 141.
Teams started the Second Round on Friday afternoon before darkness forced play to be suspended. Players resumed their Second Rounds on Saturday morning.
With an improved weather forecast for Sunday, coaches and administrators made the decision to keep Sunday's Final Round 8:30 a.m., shotgun start and not continue play on Saturday afternoon.

Hamilton and Scobie each drained four birdies during their Second Rounds with Scobie reaching that total on the front nine. Although he posted bogeys on two of three holes early in his back nine, Hamilton sank a birdie on the 458-yard, par 4 18th hole to cap his round.
Freshman Michael Perras overcame a pair of bogeys on his front nine with two birdies in a four-hole stretch midway through his back nine and was tied for 18th at 145.
Making his collegiate debut in stroke play, freshman Alan De Bondt fired the team's lowest round of the day with a 2-under-par 70 and moved into a tie for 28th at 147. Starting on No. 10, the Antwerp, Belgium, native enjoyed four birdies during an 8-hole stretch and capped the day with seven straight pars.
Other Cougars in action were redshirt freshman Joshua Gibbons (t-28th, 147), senior Roman Robledo (151, t-52nd), junior Vincent Martino (151, t-52nd), sophomore Emmett Oh (152, t-63rd), senior Kyle Pilgrim (154, t-72nd) and redshirt freshman Papito Gonzalez (154, t-72nd).

Following the Bayou City Collegiate Championship, the Cougars will compete at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate in Querencia, Los Cabos, Mexico on March 1-3.
A year ago, the Cougars swept the team and individual titles behind Robledo's stellar play and ended Alabama's 11-tournament winning streak.
