Houston Volleyball Falls Short to UCF

HOUSTON â€" A back and forth battle ended in three sets as the University of Houston Volleyball team fell to UCF, 3-0 (22-25, 23-25, 23-25), on Friday night.
The Cougars drop to 15-8 overall, 5-6 in the American Athletic Conference while the Knights improve to 12-11, 6-5 in league play.
From the beginning, both teams battled point-for-point. UCF maintained its lead for most of the first set, but the Cougars wouldn't let up and gave up a fight in set two. The Knights opened set two with a 5-2 lead. Houston took the lead on a 7-2 run, forcing a UCF timeout.
The Cougars held onto the lead for most of set two until UCF tied it up 23-23. The Knights won the match on back-to-back kills, taking a 2-0 lead into the half.
Houston had its best set in the third as the Cougars hit .400 with only two errors, but that wasn't enough as UCF came back to claim the sweep.
Junior right side Hunter Wise was the Cougars top attacker as she hit .316 with nine kills. Sophomore Shelby Harper followed with eight kills, hitting .300, one dig and four blocks. Freshman outside hitter Brookah Palmer led the Cougars with 13 kills, hitting .250, a career-high four aces and two blocks.
NEXT SERVE
Houston Volleyball returns to the court Sunday as the Cougars host USF for a 1 p.m. first serve. Sunday's match will be Girl Scout and YMCA Day. Any Girl Scout troop in attendance will receive a UH patch.
