Houston Volleyball Drops Heartbreaker to USF

HOUSTON â€" After leading 2-0 heading into intermission, Houston Volleyball fell in a heartbreaking five sets (25-21, 25-22, 18-25, 25-27, 7-15) to South Florida on Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars fall to 15-9 on the season, 5-7 in the American Athletic Conference while USF improves to 8-16, 5-7 in league play.
Houston has now split the series 1-1 with USF and UCF this season.
Houston Volleyball set a new season high with 14 service aces against the Bulls. The previous high was 11 service aces coming against Jackson State (Sept. 5). Senior middle blocker Courtney Smith led the Cougars with four aces while Destiny Patterson, Sarah Afflerbaugh and Olivia O'Dell had two each.
Senior libero Olivia O'Dell recorded 20 digs for the 14th time this season. She jumped to seventh in school history for her 538 digs this season. The Rowlett, Texas, native has totaled 1,404 career digs to rank sixth in school history.
Freshman hitter Brookah Palmer recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 12 kills and 14 digs while sophomore setter Keandra McCardell recorded her ninth double-double of the season and 17th of her career with 18 assists and 10 digs.
Redshirt freshman Chenelle Walker led the Cougars as she hit .235 down the middle with six kills and six blocks. Sophomore hitter Shelby Harper followed with a hitting percentage of .207, 11 kills, three digs and two blocks.

Houston Volleyball returns to the court next weekend as the Cougars host UConn on Friday at 7 p.m. and Temple on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Cougars have just four more home matches and four road matches.
