HOUSTON - Seven Lakes High star Zach Tracy became the University of Houston Men's Golf program's newest member with his recent signing of a National Letter of Intent, director of golf Jonathan Dismuke announced.
Tracy, who is a Houston native, will compete as a freshman with the Cougars in 2015-16.
"Zach is a very talented player and has a bright future," Dismuke said. "He has a lot of physical ability and has been successful at every level. Zach will be a great asset to our program in the years to come."
As a junior at Seven Lake High, Tracy won the District 19-5A Championship at River Ridge Golf Club and finished among the top-10 leaders at the Texas 5A State Championship at Onion Creek. He was recognized as the Seven Lakes High Most Valuable Player and was a member of the All-District 19-5A, All-Greater Houston and All-State teams.
On the junior tour, Tracy won the U.S. Junior Amateur Qualifier at The Wetlands Golf Club by five strokes at 9-under par and successfully defended his title at the AJGA Arrowhead Junior at the Bluffs Golf Club.
As a sophomore in 2012-13, Tracy finished third at the District 19-5A Championship and the Region III-5A Championship and was a member of the All-District and All-Region teams.
In his first prep season, Tracy received the Seven Lakes High Golf Spartan Award for sportsmanship and finished third at the AJGA Junior All-Star in Norman, Okla.
Tracy, who checks in at 5-foot-8 and 175 pounds, will be the third generation of his family to compete at Houston. His father, Mike Tracy, Jr., played football at Houston from 1983 to 1984, while his grandfather, Mike Tracy, Sr., was a member of the Football program from 1963 to 1966.
In addition, his swing coach is Marty Fleckman, who was the 1965 NCAA individual national champion and a three-time All-American with the Cougars.
