TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Freshman Curtis Reed continued his stellar recent play to help lead the University of Houston golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Seminole Intercollegiate on Sunday afternoon.
Reed, native of Castroville, Texas, fired a 70 in the final 18 holes, his second straight sub-par round, to finish in a tie for fourth place with a score of 210 on the 7,141-yard, par-71 course at SouthWood Country Club.
"Curtis had a great tournament," head coach Jonathan Dismuke said. "He had a chance to win down the stretch and any time you have a chance to do that, you have to feel good. I was very proud of the way Curtis played."
Reed and freshman Wesley McClain each posted sub-par rounds Sunday to lead the Cougars to a team score of 286 during the final 18 holes and a three-day total of 865. McClain tied for 47th place with a three-round total of 223.
Freshman Bryn Flanagan fired a 72 in the final round to tie for 15th place at 215. Sophomore newcomer Will Dusenbury tied for 21st with a score of 218, and freshman Jesse Droemer tied for 77th with a score of 230.
"We had a great round early, but we let a few shots get away toward the end," Dismuke said. "However, we moved up in the final standings, and any time you can do that, you have to feel successful."
Arkansas won the team competition with a score of 844, three strokes ahead of Kennesaw State. Florida State (849) and North Texas (850) rounded out the top-four team leaders.
Arkansas' Sebastian Cappelen, Kennesaw State's Jeff Karlsson and Drew Kittleson of Florida State tied for medalist honors with a 208.
