Volleyball Begins Four-Match Home Stand This Weekend

HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball team will look to extend its three-match win streak as they begin a four-match home stand this weekend at the Athletics/Alumni Center.
The Cougars enter the weekend with a 15-10 overall record and a 9-4 mark in Conference USA play. Currently tied for third place in the league standings, Houston has won its last three matches and four of the last five.
Lucy Charuk and Chandace Tryon lead the team and C-USA in hitting percentage with a .383 and a .358 clip, respectively. Amanda Carson continues to lead the team in digs with 443 and Amber Brooks has a team-high 959 assists.
The weekend opens against UAB on Friday. The match is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. The Blazers are 7-17 this season and 4-8 in league action. Sam Serley leads the team with 268 kills and her .336 hitting percentage is sixth best in C-USA standings.
Earlier in the season, Houston knocked off the Blazers 3-0 in Birmingham, Ala., and improved to 16-3 in the all-time series against UAB.
UH will close out the weekend against Memphis at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Tigers are 13-10 this season and 4-7 in C-USA. Altrese Hawkins leads the team with 349 kills and her 4.01 kill per set average is fourth in league standings.
The first meeting between the two schools this season came down to the fifth set with Memphis earning the win. The meeting this weekend will mark the 30th all-time and the Cougars hold a 20-9 lead.
UP NEXT
Houston will close out its 2010 home schedule on Nov. 12 against East Carolina and on Nov. 14 against Marshall. Following the match against the Thundering Herd, the Cougars will honor its two seniors, Amanda Carson and Marluci Toazzi.
Following the weekend at home, the Cougars will play their final three matches on the road. They will play at SMU, Tulsa and Rice.
