Volleyball Faces Tough Competition At SMU and Tulsa

HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball team faces a tough task this weekend as they travel to SMU and Tulsa and take on the top two teams in Conference USA.
Houston enters the weekend with a 19-10 overall record and a 13-4 mark C-USA play. The Cougars have won their last seven matches and are in third place in the league standings.
The Cougars open the weekend against second place SMU at 7 p.m., Friday. The Mustangs are 23-5 entering the weekend and 15-2 in league action. They have won 11 of their last 12 matches, with the only loss coming to the Cougars on Oct. 23.
Houston snapped a six-match win streak by SMU with a 3-1 win over the Mustangs at the Athletics/Alumni Center. Lucy Charuk led the Cougars with 17 kills in the win. Since that victory, Houston has won seven-straight matches.
Dana Powell leads SMU with 364 kills, averaging 3.31 per set and Kelli Becerra paces the team with 1,183 assists.
UH leads the all-time series against the Mustangs with a 10-6 mark.
Houston will close out the weekend against Tulsa at 1 p.m., Sunday. The Golden Hurricanes are 27-2 overall and 17-0 in Conference USA action. They enter the weekend on a 26-match win streak, the nation's longest and the longest in C-USA.
The Golden Hurricane came to Houston on Oct. 22 and knocked off the Cougars, 3-1, in their only other meeting this season. With the loss, Tulsa tied the all-time series with Houston, 5-5.
Tyler Henderson leads Tulsa with 600 kills, averaging 6.32 per set. Jordan Clampitt paces the team with 1,257 assists.

Following the two matches this weekend, Houston will close out the 2010 season against cross-town rival Rice at Tudor Fieldhouse.
