HOUSTON - University of Houston junior golfer Clark Mitzner recently was selected to chair the Conference USA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for the 2009-10 academic year.
Each Conference USA school delegates one student-athlete to represent it on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The committee advises both conference and university administrators on issues and concerns relative to college athletics and connects with other student-athletes across the country.
As the Committee chair, Mitzner will represent Conference USA during national SAAC events. Earlier this summer, he attended a national meeting in Orlando.
"Clark has exhibited all the qualities one would look for in a student-athlete," UH associate director of athletics for academics Maria Peden said. "I know he will represent both the University of Houston and Conference USA wonderfully."
Mitzner competed in eight tournaments in 2008-09 during his first season at UH. He posted a career-low 69 in the second round of the Rice Intercollegiate to open the spring season and finished that event in a tie for 18th place.
He also was named to the 2008-09 C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll while studying communications.
SMU's Catherine Campbell will serve as the committee's vice-chair.
