Volleyball Heads to Rice for Regular Season Finale

HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball team will wrap-up the 2009 regular season on Thursday night at 7 p.m. against cross-town rival Rice.
The Cougars will look to improve on their 9-21 record and a 6-9 mark in Conference USA. They dropped two matches last weekend at UTEP and Tulane. The Owls recorded two wins over the same opponents to improve to 18-8 and 10-5 overall.
Thursday's match will be the 74th overall between the two teams; with Houston holding a 58-15 all-time series lead. They have played two matches every year since 2002 and the two teams have split wins since 2005. In a match at the Athletics/Alumni Center on Nov. 7, Houston fell to the Owls 3-0.
Senior Kinsey Cave continues to lead the Cougars with 367 kills. Junior Amanda Carson has pushed her career digs total to 1,306, which ranks as the fifth most in school history and freshman Chandace Tryon leads the team with 72 blocks.
For the Owls, Ashleigh McCord paces the team with 324 kills, Tracey Lam's 514 digs are a team-high and Natalie Bogan leads the team with 91 blocks.

Following the match against Rice, Houston will compete on the Conference USA Championship on Nov. 20-22 on the Rice campus. Game details will be announced following the completion of the regular season.
