Volleyball sweeps UCF 3-0

The Univiersity of Houston volleyball team swept UCF 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-21). With the victory, Houston improves to 7-17 (3-5).
The first set was a closely fought contest in which Houston trailed 17-16. Houston battled back to win six of the next seven points forcing UCF to use two timeouts. Junior Marluci Toazzi and freshman Chandace Tyron led the Cougars for kills in the set with three, while Toazzi led all Cougars in digs with four.
The second set also went the Cougars way after it remained very competitive up until both teams were tied at ten points a piece. The score had been tied five times up to that point, but once the score reached double-digits, Houston took over. Houston rallied for four and six consecutive points to build up a sizeable lead. The Knights were never able to cut the deficit to a reasonable figure as the Cougars took the second set 25-16.
During the second set, Houston nearly doubled the amount of kills UCF had by a margin of 15-8. Houston only committed two attacking errors while UCF had eight attacking errors.
Despite a 2-0 disadvantage, UCF battled hard all the way throughout the third and decisive set. This set featured 11 ties and four lead changes. Houston won six of the last eight points to win by a score of 25-21. Toazzi and freshman Jasmine Terry both notched four kills in the set and they lead all Cougars with ten kills in the match. Toazzi also registered a team high of nine digs and freshman Tara Roenicke lead all Cougars with 35 assists.
Roenicke dished out 35 assists falling one assist shy of her season-high mark of 36 assists in a 3-set match.
Houston travels to Tulsa for their next match at 7:00 p.m., Oct. 23.
