HONOLULU, Hawai'i - University of Houston sophomore Anastasia Pozdniakova captured first place Friday on the 3-meter springboard with 316.45 points during the 2007 Hawai'i Diving Invitational at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
Pozdniakova, the reigning Conference USA Freshman Diver of the Year and a four-time C-USA Diver of the Week recipient in 2006-07, helped lead the Cougars to a 1-2 sweep of that event.
Junior transfer and Cougar teammate Ginni van Katwijk finished second in the meet with 281.50 points. Senior captain Rachel Gitelson scored 230.40 points to finish ninth.
The Cougars' appearance at the Hawai'i Diving Invitational was not on the team's original 2006-07 schedule and was added late last week as part of the team's annual winter training in the Aloha State.
UH returns to action this Friday and Saturday when they play host to North Texas, New Mexico State and Florida International in a two-day, quad meet at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium.
That meet begins at 4 p.m., Friday and wraps up at 11:30 a.m., Saturday. All Cougar Swimming and Diving regular-season home meets are free and open to the public, which is invited to attend.
