ORLANDO, Fla. - University of Houston sophomore Tania Cagnotto finished her stay at the 2006 All-Star Challenge at the YMCA Aquatic Center with a first-place finish on the platform.
Cagnotto, a native of Bolzano, Italy, recorded 333.10 points to finish nearly 25 points ahead of her closest competitor to win the event championship.
Earlier in the meet, Cagnotto finished second on the 3-meter springboard. Following the preliminaries in which she finished second with 301.05 points, the top eight divers were paired off in head-to-head matches. Cagnotto reeled off head-to-head victories with 321.95 and 305.90 points before falling to Miami (Fla.)'s Melanie Rinaldi in the finals with 324.90 points, only 3.10 points behind Rinaldi's winning total.
Senior captain Stephanie Mannella finished fifth on the 1-meter springboard with 209.95 points and placed 10th in the 3-meter preliminaries with 204.25 points.
That meet was the last one for the Cougars before playing host to the 2006 Conference USA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship and Men's Invitational at UH's own Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium on Feb. 22-25.
