HOUSTON - Head coach Bill Walton announced the signing of Hannah Sullivan and Aida Bauzá to National Letters of Intent during the recent signing period Monday.
"We're excited about Hannah and Aida being able to sign with us during the early period," Walton said. "They'll make an instant impact to our success for the 2007 season, but we haven't finished our recruiting yet. We'll be excited to announce our final signee to this class here in the next couple of weeks."
Sullivan (New Albany, Ind./New Albany HS) was an All-Conference selection all four years in addition to a All-State First-Team honoree in 2005 and 2006. She also was an AAU All-America selection in 2004 and 2005 and a member of the 2005 KIVA U-17 National Champions.
"Hannah comes from highly decorated USA Club Volleyball program," Walton said. "She brings us a much-needed highly competitive outside hitter from championship caliber programs. Her competitiveness and her experienced background that is filled with success will be a welcome addition to our volleyball program."
Bauzá (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Saint Frances HS) was an L.A.C.C. All-District All Star selection and a member of the All-Star Team of her school tournament.
"Aida brings us an experienced outside hitter with a wide array of shots and match experience from Puerto Rico," Walton said. "She's an excellent ball-control player that will be able to handle service reception and defensive responsibilities in a highly successful Division I program as a freshman. We look forward to incorporating her cultural style into our team. The experience of different cultures is an important part of the collegiate experience for our players."
Houston opens the C-USA Volleyball Championship Thursday evening against Rice. First serve against the Owls is slated for 5pm at Hofheinz Pavilion. Live stats will be available on UHCougars.com
