Swimming Wins Fourth Straight Meet vs. Lehigh

ORLANDO, Fla. and ATHENS, Ga. - The University of Houston swimming team extended its winning streak to four with a 94-84 win over Lehigh on Saturday at the YMCA Indoor Aquatics Center.
With the win, the Cougars improved to 7-5 overall. Houston dominated the meet, winning all eight individual events and both relays.
Freshman Andrea Pa'lmai was a part of the winning 200-meter medley and 200-meter freestyle relay teams and added a first-place showing in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1:58.32.
Freshman Lauren VanCleave finished first in the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 1:58.32 and in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 55.99.
Freshman Sasha Schwendenwein claimed top honors in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 25.61 and added a similar showing in the 500-meter freestyle with a time of 5:07.60.
Junior Szintia Szanto placed first in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:00.38 and claimed first place in the 100-meter breaststroke with a clocking of 1:08.39.
Sophomore Marit Bloemer won the 100-meter backstroke competition with a time of 1:03.44
On the diving side, junior Anna Kiess finished ninth in the finals of the 3-meter competition with 255.50 points at the Georgia Diving Invitational and Shootout at Gabrielsen Natatorium to lead the Cougars.
Earlier in the day, junior Rachel Gitelson recorded 240-75 points to finish 16th in the preliminaries.
The swimmers will now take a break until Jan. 13-14 when they play host to LSU and crosstown rival Rice in a two-day dual meet at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium.
The divers wrap up their stay in Georgia when they compete on the platform, beginning at 10 a.m.
