Podzniakova Wins 1-Meter Title at Georgia Diving Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. and ORLANDO, Fla. - University of Houston freshman Anastasia Pozdniakova earned a first-place finish Friday with 281.65 points to win the 1-meter diving title at the Georgia Diving Invitational and Shootout at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
Teammate Anna Kiess finished fifth in the event with 267.05 points.
Pozdniakova's total was less than five points ahead of her closest competitor, Auburn's Corey Lynn Gerlach.
The Georgia Diving Invitational And Shootout will continue on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the men's 1-meter and the women's 3-meter events. The divers will compete on the platform on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the swimming team looks to extend its winning streak when it faces Lehigh at 1:30 p.m., Saturday from the YMCA Indoor Aquatics Center in Orlando, Fla. That meet was recently added to the team's schedule as part of its holiday training.
The Cougars enter the meet with a 6-5 record in dual meets after defeating Findlay on Dec. 31 and adding relay meet wins over Queens (N.Y.) and Lehigh on Thursday in Orlando, Fla.
