IRVING - Setter Jennifer Hohl was named Conference USA Co-Setter of the Week Monday afternoon as announced by the league office.
This is the fourth league honor for the Cougars this season. Fellow senior Kariny Ritter has been named C-USA Player of the Week three times.
"This is a wonderful individual accomplishment for Jennifer," head coach Bill Walton said. "Like a quarterback in football, a setter should be judged on how often their team wins."
Hohl fueled the Houston attack to its third 2-0 weekend in the last four weeks, dishing out 14.57 assits per game. The Cougars posted 18.00 kills per game for the weekend, connecting on a .260 attack percentage.
Her 26 digs over the weekend at a 3.71 per game rate in addition to her 0.86 blocks per game was third on the squad.
"The reason for that is the hard work that she is putting in during her individual workouts," Walton said. "It's nice that she sees some reward for all the extra work she's putting in."
The Indiana native started the weekend with a 59-assist performance, while matching a career-best 18 digs against Tulane. It was Hohl's sixth double-double of the season. Four of her six double-doubles have come in conference play.
The Cougar offense started Senior Day racking up a season-best .529 attack percentage against UTEP in game one, slapping 19 kills on 34 sings with only one error thanks to Hohl's efficiency.
Four Houston hitters (Kariny Ritter, Justine Farmer, Becca Sartori and Cinthia Piva) registered over a .300 attack percentage against the Miners.
"What I do hope is that she sees where she is now at 14 assists per game and it would be really excellent if she get up to around 16 per game" Walton said. "If she can get to that level for the next two weeks, that would be huge for us."
Hohl enters this week's action only two assists shy of reaching her total of 889 from a season ago and 52 assists away from moving into the No. 9 slot all-time in the Houston record books.
Houston concludes a five-match homestand against crosstown rival, Rice, on Wednesday night at the Athletics/Alumni Center. First serve against the Owls is on tap for 7pm.
