HOUSTON - For the third time this season, University of Houston sophomore Anna Kiess was recognized Wednesday as the Conference USA Diver of the Week.
A native of Berlin, Germany, Kiess finished among the top two performers during double dual meets last weekend. She won the 1-meter springboard event with 308.77 points and was the only diver to crack the 300-point plateau.
A day later, she followed that with 304.55 points on the 3-meter board to finish second behind teammate and junior captain Azul Almazan. The Cougar duo was the only divers to top 300 points in that event.
Kiess was one of only two Cougars to win individual events in the double dual meets against Harvard and host Kansas.
Kiess earned her fourth weekly C-USA award during her brief career. It also was the fourth time that a Cougar diver received the award as Almazan picked up the league's weekly honor on Nov. 24.
Tulane's Linda McEachrane was named the league's Swimmer of the Week.
Kiess and her Cougar teammates return to action on Dec. 31, when they compete at the Duke Kahanamoku Sprint Meet in Honolulu, Hawai'i.
